Why Kentucky's Getaways Are Better Than Your State's

"Kentuckians have been influencing and creating American and world culture for a long time. We were the first to sing Happy Birthday, fry chicken, and slap high-fives. We invented bourbon, bluegrass music, and the Kentucky Derby. We made cool cooler by birthing Clooney, Depp, and Hunter S. Thompson. Come join us as we celebrate Kentucky's awesomeness.
- Kentucky For Kentucky"

Contrary to popular thought, Kentucky is not the historic of home of Joe Dirt and we don't all drink out of mason jars (which is apparently a hip thing to do these days, take that Florida). The Bluegrass state is full of addicting charm and intriguing destinations. Let's be honest, we all need a break from the noise and the bustle of life. Yes, even us Kentuckians put down our fried chicken and moonshine jugs occasionally to enjoy the beauty of our state. To help you save your sanity and encourage you to get out for a breath of fresh air, we have compiled a list of destinations to choose from.

Explore Carter Caves State Park

Find your inner Bear Grylls and check out Carter Caves State Resort Park. The caves are located in Carter County along Tygarts Creek in northeastern Kentucky. There is quite a bit to do here. The surrounding area offers cabins to rent, canoeing, golf, mini-golf, underground waterfalls, walking tours, and 4 different limestone caves. There is also a cave where you can see a small chunk of the bat population as well. We were not a fan of that idea, but if that is your idea of fun, we don't want to rain on your parade.
