Back to the Basics: Choosing a Mixer

If you have no idea what kind of mixer you need, but you know you need one, you are in the right spot.

Buying something that you know you need without knowing much about the product is scary. You’re at the hands of the guy selling it to you. If you talk to the wrong guy, he might sell you something more expensive than what you need or something that won’t do what you need it to do.

The goal of this information is to let you in on how we match customers with the right mixers. It is a way for you to know you are getting the product you need and to grow your knowledge of the mixing world.

If you are buying a mixer you need to answer two questions to get started. The first question is, “How much am I mixing?” or volume of the mix. The second question is, “How thick is what I am mixing?” or density and viscosity.

The answers to those two questions will tell us how much energy you’ll need to mix your product. As the volume, density, and viscosity increase, so will the amount of energy you need. As the amount of energy you need increases, the type of mixer changes.

Though there are definitely more questions to ask, once you know the volume, density, and viscosity of what you are mixing, you are headed in the right direction. If you’d like to know more about mixing basics, check out our Mixer Basics series below, or download our Mixer Basics Guide.
